Description

A magical assortment of savory Harry Potter–inspired foods, perfect for a Hogwarts-style feast — featuring rich pies, stews, and British comfort dishes worthy of the Great Hall.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or lamb (for shepherd’s pie)
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 sheet puff pastry (for pumpkin pasties)
  • 1 cup mashed pumpkin or butternut squash
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. For Shepherd’s Pie: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Heat olive oil in a skillet, then add onion and carrots; cook until softened. Add ground beef, cooking until browned. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth; simmer until slightly thickened. Add peas, season with salt and pepper, and spoon mixture into a baking dish. Top with mashed potatoes and bake for 25 minutes, until golden brown.
  2. For Pumpkin Pasties: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a bowl, mix mashed pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cheddar cheese. Roll out puff pastry and cut into circles. Spoon a small amount of filling into each circle, fold over, and crimp the edges. Brush with beaten egg and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  3. Serve both dishes warm for a true Hogwarts feast.

Notes

  • Serve with butterbeer or pumpkin juice for a complete Harry Potter experience.
  • You can substitute sweet potatoes for mashed potatoes in the shepherd’s pie for a richer flavor.
  • Try adding cooked chicken or vegetables to the pumpkin pasties for variation.
  • Perfect for themed parties or cozy nights in with the Harry Potter films.
