Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 8 oz mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon butter


Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix gently.
  2. Form the mixture into evenly sized meatballs.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Brown the meatballs on all sides, then remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, add butter and sauté mushrooms and onion until softened and lightly browned.
  5. Sprinkle flour over the mushroom mixture and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  6. Gradually whisk in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup until smooth.
  7. Return meatballs to the skillet and simmer for 15–20 minutes, until cooked through and the gravy thickens.
  8. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meat to keep meatballs tender.
  • You can substitute ground turkey for a lighter version.
