Description

Onion Ring Chips are thinly sliced onions coated in a seasoned crispy batter and fried or baked until golden and crunchy, delivering all the flavor of onion rings in a snackable chip form.

Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced into rings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Separate onion slices into individual thin rings and pat dry.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Gradually whisk in cold sparkling water until a smooth batter forms.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F).
  5. Dip onion rings into batter, allowing excess to drip off.
  6. Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
  7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Sprinkle with additional salt if desired and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use very thin slices for crispier chips.
  • For a baked version, arrange battered rings on a lined tray and bake at 220°C (425°F) for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway.
  • Serve with ketchup, ranch, or spicy mayo.
