Description
Onion Ring Chips are thinly sliced onions coated in a seasoned crispy batter and fried or baked until golden and crunchy, delivering all the flavor of onion rings in a snackable chip form.
Ingredients
- 2 large yellow onions, thinly sliced into rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 1 cup cold sparkling water
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Separate onion slices into individual thin rings and pat dry.
- In a bowl, whisk flour, cornstarch, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Gradually whisk in cold sparkling water until a smooth batter forms.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 175°C (350°F).
- Dip onion rings into batter, allowing excess to drip off.
- Fry in batches for 2–3 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Sprinkle with additional salt if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Use very thin slices for crispier chips.
- For a baked version, arrange battered rings on a lined tray and bake at 220°C (425°F) for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway.
- Serve with ketchup, ranch, or spicy mayo.
