Description

Decadent chocolate chip cookies with a crisp edge and soft center, each hiding a gooey Nutella-filled surprise that melts perfectly when baked.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup Nutella (chilled in spoonfuls)


Instructions

  1. Scoop teaspoon-sized dollops of Nutella onto a parchment-lined plate and freeze for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  4. In a large bowl, cream together butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Fold in chocolate chips.
  8. Take about 2 tablespoons of dough, flatten slightly, place a frozen Nutella piece in the center, and wrap dough around it.
  9. Place cookies seam-side down on baking sheets.
  10. Bake for 11–13 minutes until edges are set and centers are soft.
  11. Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

  • Freezing Nutella prevents leaking during baking.
  • Do not overbake for a gooey center.
  • Cookies firm up as they cool.
