Description
This Irresistible Southern Banana Cobbler is a creamy, comforting dessert that combines sweet caramelized bananas with a buttery cobbler crust. It’s warm, gooey, and loaded with classic Southern charm — perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream on top.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 4 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Pour melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate pan over medium heat, combine sliced bananas, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Stir gently until the bananas are coated and caramelized, about 3–4 minutes.
- Pour the batter evenly over the melted butter in the baking dish — do not stir.
- Spoon the banana mixture evenly over the top of the batter — again, do not mix. The batter will rise around the fruit as it bakes.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crisp around the edges.
- Let cool slightly before serving warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- For extra richness, add a splash of rum or banana liqueur to the banana mixture.
- Use very ripe bananas for the sweetest flavor.
- Can be made ahead and reheated — tastes even better the next day!
- Try adding crushed vanilla wafers or pecans for a crunchy topping twist.
