Description
Healthy Air Fryer Churro Bites are a lighter take on the classic dessert, made with minimal oil, naturally sweetened, and air-fried until crispy outside and soft inside, then coated with cinnamon sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 cup water
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
- Cooking spray (as needed)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, coconut oil, maple syrup, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in the flour until a dough forms.
- Let the dough cool slightly, then mix in vanilla extract.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Pipe small bite-sized pieces onto parchment paper.
- Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the churro bites inside.
- Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crisp.
- In a bowl, mix cinnamon and coconut sugar.
- Toss warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking.
- You can substitute almond flour for gluten-free flour if desired.
- Serve with Greek yogurt or dark chocolate for dipping.
