Description

Healthy Air Fryer Churro Bites are a lighter take on the classic dessert, made with minimal oil, naturally sweetened, and air-fried until crispy outside and soft inside, then coated with cinnamon sugar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • Cooking spray (as needed)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine water, coconut oil, maple syrup, and salt. Bring to a gentle boil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the flour until a dough forms.
  3. Let the dough cool slightly, then mix in vanilla extract.
  4. Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
  5. Pipe small bite-sized pieces onto parchment paper.
  6. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray and place the churro bites inside.
  7. Air fry at 180°C (350°F) for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway, until golden and crisp.
  8. In a bowl, mix cinnamon and coconut sugar.
  9. Toss warm churro bites in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  10. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • You can substitute almond flour for gluten-free flour if desired.
  • Serve with Greek yogurt or dark chocolate for dipping.
