Description

Crispy Baked Chicken Cordon Bleu is a lighter, oven-baked version of the classic dish, featuring juicy chicken breasts stuffed with ham and melted cheese, coated in crunchy breadcrumbs.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
  • Cooking spray (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
  2. Butterfly each chicken breast and season inside and out with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Place one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese inside each chicken breast, then fold closed.
  4. Secure with toothpicks if needed.
  5. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
  6. Dredge each stuffed chicken breast in flour, dip in egg, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
  7. Place breaded chicken on the prepared baking sheet and lightly spray or brush with olive oil or melted butter.
  8. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the chicken is cooked through.
  9. Remove toothpicks before serving.

Notes

  • Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
  • Serve with a simple mustard sauce or steamed vegetables.
  • Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing.
