Description
Crispy Baked Chicken Cordon Bleu is a lighter, oven-baked version of the classic dish, featuring juicy chicken breasts stuffed with ham and melted cheese, coated in crunchy breadcrumbs.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 4 slices deli ham
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter
- Cooking spray (as needed)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Butterfly each chicken breast and season inside and out with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
- Place one slice of ham and one slice of Swiss cheese inside each chicken breast, then fold closed.
- Secure with toothpicks if needed.
- Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and breadcrumbs.
- Dredge each stuffed chicken breast in flour, dip in egg, then coat thoroughly with breadcrumbs.
- Place breaded chicken on the prepared baking sheet and lightly spray or brush with olive oil or melted butter.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown and the chicken is cooked through.
- Remove toothpicks before serving.
Notes
- Use panko breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
- Serve with a simple mustard sauce or steamed vegetables.
- Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before slicing.
