Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water or brewed coffee
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.
- In a bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the egg, milk, oil, and vanilla extract, and mix until smooth.
- Gradually stir in the hot water or coffee until the batter is well combined.
- Fill cupcake liners about two-thirds full.
- Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
- Coffee enhances the chocolate flavor but does not make the cupcakes taste like coffee.
- Top with chocolate or vanilla frosting as desired.
- Do not overbake to keep cupcakes moist.
