Ingredients
- 3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or cubed
- 1 1/2 cups diced ham
- 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
- Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread cooked chicken evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Layer diced ham over the chicken, then sprinkle with shredded Swiss cheese.
- In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in milk and chicken broth until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
- Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy and combined.
- Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken, ham, and cheese layers.
- In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers or breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
- Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.
Notes
- For extra flavor, mix a little grated Parmesan cheese into the breadcrumb topping.
- You can substitute turkey for chicken or use mozzarella if Swiss cheese isn’t available.
