Description

This Delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu Casserole is a creamy, cheesy twist on the classic French dish — featuring tender chicken, savory ham, and Swiss cheese baked under a golden breadcrumb topping for the ultimate comfort food.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cooked chicken breast, shredded or cubed
  • 1 1/2 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup crushed Ritz crackers or breadcrumbs
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (for topping)
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Spread cooked chicken evenly on the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Layer diced ham over the chicken, then sprinkle with shredded Swiss cheese.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute to form a roux.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and chicken broth until smooth and slightly thickened (about 5 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and stir in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until creamy and combined.
  6. Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken, ham, and cheese layers.
  7. In a small bowl, mix crushed crackers or breadcrumbs with melted butter. Sprinkle evenly over the top of the casserole.
  8. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown on top.
  9. Let rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, mix a little grated Parmesan cheese into the breadcrumb topping.
  • You can substitute turkey for chicken or use mozzarella if Swiss cheese isn’t available.
  • This casserole can be assembled ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before baking.
  • Serve with steamed vegetables or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
