Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 4 slices cheddar cheese
- 4 burger buns
- 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
- 4 lettuce leaves
- 1 large tomato, sliced
- 1 small onion, sliced
- Pickles, optional
- Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, as desired
Instructions
- Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Divide the meat into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
- Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
- Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and allow it to melt.
- Butter the burger buns and toast them lightly on the grill or skillet.
- Assemble burgers by placing patties on the bottom buns and topping with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and sauces.
- Cover with top buns and serve immediately.
Notes
- Do not overwork the beef to keep burgers tender.
- Use a meat thermometer for accuracy (160°F for well-done).
