Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 4 burger buns
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • Pickles, optional
  • Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise, as desired


Instructions

  1. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. In a bowl, gently mix the ground beef with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  3. Divide the meat into 4 equal portions and shape into patties.
  4. Cook patties for 3–4 minutes per side, or until desired doneness.
  5. Place a slice of cheese on each patty during the last minute of cooking and allow it to melt.
  6. Butter the burger buns and toast them lightly on the grill or skillet.
  7. Assemble burgers by placing patties on the bottom buns and topping with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and sauces.
